e-Prescription, what a wonderful world!
I’m just starting with my “seconds” steps on Healthcare information systems. I was working some years ago in a project regarding some data replication software (about e-Prescription) but the visibility for this, from the business point of view, was minimal. Now, it seems my work will start focusing on Healthcare systems, particularly on e-Prescription.
The first objective for this is “time-to-market”. There is one previous “made-at-home” application already deployed on some pharmacies but, the integration needed and functionality provided, seems to be insufficient for massive deployment. The integration between general Medical System and the one for e-Prescription is based on a weak solution and we think it won’t be able to support the work load in the future.
The client is thinking about deploying one packaged solution vs analyzing the current solution and many “re-engineering” in order to be able to provide more robustness. The last alternative is more risky but an exciting integration project. For a technician like me, more attractive. On the same way, is very difficult to change and deploy Information Systems for the Healthcare on a very shot time (less than a year is a very short time to change such a critical system) so, the deployment of another solution than the one we have, seems to be impossible. Which will be the decision we will take? I guess one, but the uncertainty is still there.
